Solar radiation may result in natural avalanche activity. Avalanches could also be triggered by skiers. The risk of avalanches are increasing during the day. Keep distance to conices. If a cornice breaks, the consequences might be fatal.

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Snødekket fremstår som stabilt også på de høyeste fjelltoppene. Perioder med sol og høye dagtemperaturer gjør at snøen i solutsatt terreng fuktes opp om dagen, og kalde nattetemperaturer gjør at det våte snødekket fryser til om natten. I skyggefullt terreng består snødekket i hovedsak av harde og igjenfrosset smelteformer.

I bratt sørvendt terreng i lavere områder kan snødekket være på grensen til "råttent".

I løpet av helgen gikk det flere små og noen middels store naturlig utløste skred i regionen.

Det er observert glidesprekker ved Pilan på Austvågøya.

Med sol fra skyfri himmel vil snødekket i solvendte fjellsider igjen bløtes opp. I bratt terreng kan det være lett for skikjørere å løse ut små skred når solen er på det høyeste og dagen på det varmeste.
